Blog Change

I'm trying out this new dynamic blog template. I am usually not into change, especially when it has to do with the computer, but I think I like it. Its fun and you can look at my page whichever way you find more appealing. Give the reader the choice! I'm still trying to figure out how to personalize it though. Let me know what you think.

Gussy Sews Inpiration Challenge: Family Room

The family room. The name says it all.

We spend a lot of time together in this room, but I would really like to utilize it even better. We watch TV, movies, and play Wii in here. I would like a space to play board games though (coffee table?) and make it more inviting when people visit. They always seem to stay at the dining room table. When we moved in we decided that we wanted the room to be comfortable but it still had to look nice since it is pretty open to the rest of the house. (This is a no toy room! You can bring them in, but they have to leave when your done.) There are many things I love about the room, like the ceilings and the size, but there are some things that I would like to improve upon. Number one being the fireplace. I have NO idea what to do about it. I also think it needs some extra warming style since two of the walls are stone. You'll see...

One of the shelves about the fireplace. We have photos everywhere.

I like to have personal items around. Handmade is even better.

My husband started making these collages of the major trips we have taken together as a couple and with our daughter. So far we have Disney, Chicago, Las Vegas, New York, and Washington D.C.. Its fun to look back on our favorite moments. Also in this photo on the couch is a blanket my mother knitted for me for our new house. I like it cozy!

Presenting the problem...

HELP! What can I do here?? It bugs me that the fireplace is not centered between the windows. Why would you build it like that?
Pintrest Inspiration...

I  love the colors and how they used the ottoman as a coffee table. Multi-functionality.

How cute is this?? It would enhance that game vibe.

Like this rug. Definitely need a rug.

For the Love A Good Book

I LOVE to read. Always have, always will. We frequent the library every week and over the summer I did the adult summer reading program while my daughter did the children's one. There is nothing like a good book that makes you laugh, cry, philosophize. No surprise that I have degree concentration in English.

Some of my FAVORITES:
  • Jane Eyre, by Charlotte Bronte
  • all of the Nicholas Sparks books
  • For One More Day AND Tuesdays with Morrie, by Mitch Albom
  • Charlotte's Web, by E. B. White
  • Little Women, by Louisa May Alcott
  • The Letters of Abelard and Heloise
  • Butterfly's Child, by Angela Davis-Gardner
.................. and sooooo many more!

As a child I would have killed for the library in the Disney Beauty and Beast film, or perhaps something like this:

I wouldn't want to go too over the top though so I would find this amazing too:

Although I would definitely see this being as more "do-able" in my house. A nice cozy reading spot. No one would find me with the doors closed.

Please share your favorite books below. I am always looking for something new to read.
