Gussy Sews Inpiration Challenge: Favorite Color

The weeks Gussy Sews challenge topic is: Favorite Color. If I had to choose I would definitely say PURPLE (like my wedding colors and bathroom paint) and BLUE (like the majority of the rest of my homes walls) would be my second choice.... but overall I am pretty non-committal to picking favorite colors. I always seem to be changing. Over the summer it was YELLOW, but last night I was on Pinterest and saw gorgeous jewel tone inspired rooms! I think this is the start of a new obsession. (PURPLE and BLUE just happen to make wonderful jewel tones.)

My husband made this for me when we were in high school. Its a marriage of my favorite colors.
(Notice the jewel tone purple bottom.)

Weekday Project

I know that it is time to go back to work for the school year because I have started taking on larger projects, and I don't think my house could handle it if I start thinking too big. After watching some HGTV and Jeff Lewis on Flipping Out, I walked down the hall... past the shelf area that has not been touched since we bought the house... and thought, I CAN FIX THIS! So I got out the cleaning supplies, scrapper, sandpaper, and paint and began my work. If I had decided to do it in the morning it would have probably only taken me one day, but seeing as how I came to my epiphany after lunch it took two. Mind you, I am an impatient person and I don't properly wait for anything to dry so it should have taken a little longer. I've learned to live with this though and it works for me.

The UGLY Before Picture

I made a stencil out of construction paper, traced it, and painted over it with a small paint brush.

Pretty Endings
Right now I am feeling pretty pleased with myself, so I thought I would share. (Note: It is not 100% finished. It needs molding around the edges and shelves. Also, the bottom portion is a broken hamper thing that comes out and access to the tub is behind it... I would rather it just be a door.) The best part of this whole project was it was FREE (until I add the other things of course).

Gussy Sews Inpiration Challenge: The Front Porch

This weeks Gussy Sews Challenge topic is: The Front Porch. This is not limited to JUST the front porch though. It could be a deck, patio, or anything of the sort.
Gussy Sews Inspiration Workshop!

The #1 thing I currently want that makes NO sense to have in my yard:

The 1st porch I have ever seen with a fireplace:

I really want a sand/fire pit in our yard. I'm thinking maybe benches instead of chairs though:

In addition to my ongoing list of wishes for the yard, I <3 string lights/candles/lanterns:

Gussy Sews Inpiration Challenge: Gardens

This weeks Gussy Sews Inspiration Challenge is gardens. The second I heard this I instantly thought of the pictures I had recently seen in Martha Stewart Living magazine of moss gardens. She brought them in the home and I thought they were beautiful. They seem so magical. I can picture a fairy living in them.

I would love to have one of these in my home. I'm just not sure what the easiest way to get the  materials is. Any ideas?

Watermelon Days

We were supposed to have a family outing this past weekend and I was designated to bringing a dessert. I was excited to be able to have a reason to use this months cookie cutter. (I have a set that has a shape for each month of the year.) August is a watermelon. I got a sugar cookie recipe, found out how to make royal icing (used this link), and got to work with my assistant. We ended up creating these:

Needless to say the outing was rained out, but I brought them to family dinner a few nights later and they all loved them and made them vanish. I can't wait to work out the kinks (first time with the icing) and do September. A million ideas are swimming in my head right now.

Just Give Me Old Time Rock and Roll

This morning, when I got woken up to find my husbands iPod on his way out the door, I was feeling a little annoyed because I couldn't fall back asleep afterwards. It's not job to keep track of other peoples' toys, right? However, as I lay there not sleeping I was was worrying about how he didn't have his iPod to listen to that day and got up to search for it again. I didn't find it and now I am going to spend remainder of the day feeling bad.

And that is true love. When you worry about each others happiness over the little things. When your emotions are connected. When you could not possibly feel indifferent about anything concerning the other person. My husband works very hard and gives it his all, and if music to listen to at work is what he wants, then that is what I want him to have. (Meanwhile he probably found it in his car on the drive to work, or has already gotten over it while I am still here searching.)
