Gussy Sews Inpiration Challenge: The Beach

We are most definitely a beach-going family. How can you not be in Rhode Island?! My husbands family has a beach house and boat and my family lives on a pond so its water, water, water. My best girl is a big water bug!

Of course over time I have collected tons of beach photos over the years, so this inspiration challenge feels like a no-brainer to me. Some are old and some are new. All are taken in our home state at our various watering holes.

Gussy Sews Inpiration Challenge: Your Inspiration (My Backyard Oasis)

Gussy Sews Inspiration Workshop!

Latest craze: my backyard.

This weeks Gussy Sews Inspiration Workshop prompt is: Your Inspiration. It could be about pretty much anything.

Since we bought our home last summer the backyard has not gotten much attention due to other priorities. This year I've taken it on as my summer project though. It still has a long way to go, but I'm happy about how it is shaping up so far with just a few touches. The funny part is my family always jokes that I hide away inside most of the time. I think that is changing though. I can't get enough of it. Even when it is raining I stare at the yard through the back door.

A little before trip down memory lane (when we bought the house):

.... and onto today!

Someone gave us the patio table with chairs and two lounge chairs. They were light gray and I spray painted them black. Boy was that more work than I imagined! Target had the striped outdoor throw pillows that I loved (and were on sale) so that became my inspiration for the tan cushions and umbrella. I'm thinking of going preppy and adding some bright accents.

Its not a remarkable change, but I'm enjoying working on it. I have visions of a new fence, a patio instead of the rickety deck and a cool fire pit. A cook outs of with family and friends!

Take A Moment...

and be thankful for what you have. I recently was led to this story through a link from friends blog post. I could not pass up on sharing it at the request of the author. It is very sad and moving. I hope sharing this helps her in some way. My prayers go out to Amanda and her loved ones.

Not Your Average Jewelry Box

I am currently in love with the idea of using bowls, frames, boxes, etc. to hold jewelry pieces. They can be so playful and out of the norm. I have a wonderful tall jewelry chest, but I think I would like to try a few ways to display my most favorite necklaces, bracelets and rings and make them more accessible in the morning. The following are my favorite finds:
Pottery Barn is amazing and so is the lantern jewelry case.
The Budget Babe shows you have to easily make this great necklace frame holder.

These are so cute and cheerful. Source: Little Inspirations
